The 3rd Annual National Security Law Junior Faculty Workshop
|
The Robert S. Strauss Center for International Security and Law and the International Committee of the Red Cross invite you to The Third Annual National Security Law Junior Faculty Workshop on Thursday, April 1, 2010 in the Eidmann Jury Room, UT School of Law and Friday, April 2, 2010 in the LBJ Library Brown Room.
The third annual National Security Law Junior Faculty Workshop is an article workshop with a difference. In addition to presentation and discussion of works-in-progress on a range of national security law topics, participants will discuss cutting edge issues in International Humanitarian Law with instructors provided by the International Committee of the Red Cross and the U.S. Army JAG School.
As in years past, our format intersperses the workshop sessions with the IHL training/discussion sessions. We’ve found that this keeps everyone fresh and engaged. For the workshop sessions, we use a discussant format, with a relatively brief presentation of the paper by someone other than the author, followed by extensive Q&A among all attendees.
Attending
If you have an interest in national security affairs, you’ll enjoy the article discussions, the IHL training, and the networking opportunities. Though we hope the event will attract junior faculty in particular, all scholars are welcome.
There are no fees or costs involved in attending, though everyone must rely on their own resources for travel, lodging, and related expenses. Last year we were able to provide meals throughout through the generosity of the Strauss Center and the ICRC, and we may be able to repeat that in whole or in part again this year.
Space is limited on Thursday the 1st, though much less so on Friday the 2nd. In any event, if you plan to attend please contact Professor Bobby Chesney by e-mail or call him at 512-232-1298. There is no registration fee or paperwork; we just need to know whom to expect.
HOTELS: We’ve got a good price on a block of rooms at the AT&T Executive Education and Conference Center, which is a very nice on-campus hotel. You must book by March 10 to get the special rate, though, so if you want to stay there call them ASAP at 512-404-1900.
